This collection represents the legal and political career of Judge Charles (Charlie) F. Baird. Items include speeches and writings made by Baird; writings about Baird; memorabilia from his political campaigns for judicial seats; as well as materials concerning his teaching and legal careers. Materials concerning his teaching career include rosters from the classes he taught at South Texas College of Law and Texas Tech Law School and student evaluations of his teaching skills. Materials from his legal career include items from his time as an of counsel member of the criminal defense firm of Cogdell, Durham and Burnett and from his service on the National Committee to Prevent Wrongful Executions, as well as correspondence, research, and opinions from his time on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. Five and one-half boxes are dedicated to Judge Baird's campaign activity.
